Latest Conditions

We thought those of you not following us on Facebook might be missing out on some of the recent pictures we have been sharing of both Jay Peak and Sunday River!

Conditions at both resorts are looking excellent, with so much more snow than we are seeing here in Nova Scotia! Jay Peak has received close to 3 feet of snow in the past 6 days with even more snow in the forecast tomorrow. Sunday River has also had it’s fair share of the white stuff and is predicting over 6 inches tomorrow.

Check out Jay Peak:

And Sunday River:

Hard to believe that those of you travelling to Sunday River during the New Brunswick March Break (the ‘early week’) will already be at the hill in just under a 1 month. And of course, just over 1 month for the rest of us travelling for the Nova Scotia March Break 🙂

All images are courtesy of the respective resort Facebook pages. See more of Sunday River here, and Jay Peak here, And of course, check out the Duggan Ski Group Facebook page.

Limited Time Remaining

We are now officially into February; where did January go?!?! In just a little over a month, we will be hitting the slopes.

There is limited time remaining to book at Jay Peak Resort, our fantastic winter vacation getaway we are offering this year. We have rooms at both Hotel Jay and Tram Haus, including one bedroom suites and studios. Most of these well equipped and modernized rooms have a mountain view and come with fireplaces. Some of the rooms have balconies and all are located conveniently close to the chairlifts. Remember, access to the amazing indoor waterpark is included in your Hotel Jay costs.

Please let us know as soon as you possibly can if you are interested in joining us for our March break week in Jay Peak! The rooms we have available will soon be gone! For more info on Jay Peak, check out our post here or any of the Jay Peak links from the main header at the top of the page.

Local Deals

We thought we would pass along a few deals we recently came across that can let you do some warm-up skiing here in the Maritimes before heading for your March break trips.

Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass has a Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass that lets 9 and 10 year olds ski and snowboard three times at each participating ski area for $29.95. There are over 150 ski/snowboard areas participating across Canada including Martock, Wentworth, Ben Eoin, Brookvale, Poley, and Crabbe (just to name a few of our local hills). This is a great way to get your kids into the sport at a very reasonable cost.

It should be noted that you only need to apply once for the SnowPass and it is valid until the end of grade 5. This means if you apply in grade 4 the pass is valid for two years!

More info can be found here on the website.

Never Ever Days

Never Ever Days is the ultimate beginners’ package for anyone who’s ever considered trying skiing or snowboarding, providing everything you need; equipment rental, beginner lift ticket, and a lesson – for just $25 (+tax)!

Over 80 ski areas across Canada are participating in this program including several in the Maritimes: Martock, Wentworth, Brookvale, Poley, and Crabbe. Note that there are limited spots on specific days, so please check out the link here on the webpage for more information.

National Ski & Snowboard Day

Saturday, January 27 is CIBC National Ski & Snowboard Day and several hills across the country are offering great deals in support of our Canadian Ski & Snowboard Teams. The only hill participating in the Maritimes is Mont Farlagne but click here to check out the entire list of resorts and for more information on the deals they are offering.

Happy Skiing!!!

March 2018 Trip Options

It is hard to believe it is September already, but that means thinking about our annual March Break Ski Trips (yay!). This year, we are very excited to add an additional destination to offer our Duggan Ski Group members; Jay Peak Resort in Jay, Vermont.

Jay Peak is a true vacation resort with more than just amazing skiing and snowboarding. There is a huge indoor waterpark, ice skating rink, beautiful lodging, and much more!

As promised, we have been busy updating our website with booking information for our Jay Peak trip; please click here for those details. Some points to highlight:

  • Duggan Ski Group will handle all of your personalized booking needs (information, special group rates, customized quotes, payment handling in CAD, etc.)
  • All quotes and payments for your trip will be in Canadian Dollars, no need to worry about exchange rates
  • More activities available than just skiing and snowboarding

Check out the other headers under Jay Peak for more information on the resort and what it has to offer. We will be adding more information here in the near future as well, so stay tuned for more updates and photos.

As in previous years, we will still be facilitating trips to Sunday River, Maine. There are a few changes to the Sunday River trips this year, please click here for those details. Some points to highlight:

  • Due to changes made by Sunday River, Duggan Ski Group will not personally handle your booking of lift passes and lodging; you must directly contact the hill to make your reservations
  • There are still benefits to being part of the Duggan Ski Group with lodging rates discounts and dining cards included (please mention the Duggan Ski Group while booking through the hill for these benefits)

And as always, we will provide lodging discounts in Freeport and Bangor for your travels to and from either destination. We will also update our website and Facebook page with information pertaining to all trips to help you in your planning.

We look forward to hearing from you and please contact us if you would like a quote for Jay Peak or have any questions on either trip.

Sunday River 2018 Booking Process

Things have changed slightly since our latest post on booking with Sunday River in the future. The below is everything you need to know on booking your trip in March 2018, based on their new policy.

There is a new link on the Sunday River site to help you plan your trip, including pricing information for both lodging and lift passes.

The most important change to note is you will need to call the hill directly at 1-800-543-2754 to book your trip. Duggan Ski Group will not be handling your booking personally. However, when you call to book, make sure you mention the Duggan Ski Group to receive a bonus dining card. Specifically, you should refer to booking reference “Duggan March 2018” or reservation #85r4zu. Dining cards will be issued at check-in for five-night midweek reservations, in denominations of $25 per standard or studio room and $50 per one-bedroom or larger unit.

Eligible dates are March 4 – 9, March 11 – 16, and March 18 – 23, 2018

All prices are listed on the Sunday River website, with separate pricing for lodging and lift passes. Prices are in US funds, and lodging rates do not include a 20% tax and resort fee. The hill can answer any of your questions on the pricing and booking process at 1-800-543-2754. The current prices are scheduled to increase after October 1, 2017, so remember to book early if you are planning on a March 2018 trip for the best prices.

We have updated this information under the Sunday River menu as well. Email us if you have questions, however please keep in mind that under Sunday River’s new booking policy we will not have the ability to manage your booking. This includes the purchase of dining cards, room selection and preferences, or room availability. Your entire booking must be done by calling the hill directly (1-800-543-2754). This also applies to managing changes, cancellations or requests once you have booked your trip.

Despite these changes, we are very excited to be going back to the hill next year and hope to see many of you return as well 🙂

The End of an Era

We have received news this week that Sunday River has made the decision to discontinue all group packages during our March School Breaks, starting in 2018. They are moving to a different style of marketing for this timeframe. In no way does this affect this current trip!

When you check in for your room, you will receive a pamphlet about this change.

What does this mean for our Group? This will be our final year organizing trips during March to Sunday River.

We are very sad to see this tradition come to an end. We have such terrific memories of the 20 years we have spent at the hill, with so many good friends and group members.

We will be planning a February trip to Sunday River in 2018, dates yet to be determined. Please stay tuned for the future plans for our group.

For March we will be looking into other options for different locations, in order to continue trips in the future.

We hope all of you have an amazing time while at the Hill this year; let’s hope for some amazing conditions to cap off our years of travel.

To those group members who have been with us from the beginning, and those of you who are new this year: we cannot thank you enough for allowing us to help plan your trip to Sunday River.

If we haven’t yet met – please say hello when you see us on the Hill and at the wine and cheese on Monday night.

As well, we have updated our email  moving forward to

Our current address will work but will be forwarded to this new address.

Thursday, March 16th

Just a reminder for those that have purchased tubing tickets; Tubing will be from 5 – 9 PM on Thursday, March 16th.

There will be 26 tickets for each hourly slot from 5 – 8 PM, and 25 tickets for 8 – 9 PM. Sign up for your slot and pick up your tickets at the Wine and Cheese on Monday, March 13th.

This is the same night as the Circus Maine event being held Thursday at 7 PM in the Welcome Center at South Ridge. Acts such as aerialists, acrobats, clowns, and more will turn the Welcome Center into a slopeside circus tent! Tickets are available online, by phone, at the lodging front desks or at the door.

Due to the Circus Maine event, the Welcome Center will be otherwise closed. Tubing guests can enter through the tunnel. The shuttle transportation will be available and will be waiting at the South Ridge pickup area when they are not otherwise taking guests to their hotel. Transportation will continue to loop until guests are not present.

Getting Closer!

Anyone planning to stay a night or two at the Best Western Freeport Inn may be interested in looking at a Groupon deal for the Muddy Rudder; the restaurant just on the other side of the river from the Inn. There are two options, $29 for $50 credit or $55 for $100 credit. See all of the details and fine print here.  Thanks for the tip, Barb 🙂

Like many of you, we also have been curious on what the access is like to Spruce Peak now that the three person chair lift normally servicing this area of the mountain is not running. There was an excellent post recently put up by the hill, on their The First Chair site. It gives the best account we have read so far of reaching the Spruce Peak runs, explaining you can cover about 1/3 of the way by keeping your speed from Borealis, and then either popping off your skis to walk or skate the rest of the way (“about 100 – 150 yds of moderate incline”).

We recently had this link on our Facebook page, but it was too good not to share again. Yesterday there was an update on the March weather to come, from Sunday River’s forecaster. He said “There’s still plenty of winter left, and I really like what I’m seeing in the modeling. March historically bring us some very wintry weather – especially the first two to three weeks of the month.”  Thanks for posting this for us, Paul.

Hard to believe but the first group will be on the Hill Sunday! We will plan to post pictures while we are on the hill next week, and please share any you have as well!
