We are traveling from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and lots of group members have asked what our preferred route is to travel to the United States (specifically which border crossing). Our preference over the years is to follow the Trans Canada Highway through New Brunswick, and cross the border at the Woodstock, NB / Houlton, ME crossing. This connects you to the I-95 and allows you the comfort and safety of a twinned highway, something nice for traveling in possibly snowy March conditions! The other popular option is to cross the New Brunswick border at Saint Stephen, NB / Calais, ME. Although this route is a shorter distance, Google Maps tells us the difference is only 5 minutes of travel time so we always go through Houlton 🙂
