Travel Requirements

Now that we are getting a bit closer to trip timing, we wanted to pull together a bit of information related to COVID and travel requirements. Obviously, things are changing so frequently that you should always refer to the official government website, but for those group members planning their trip we thought it would be handy to have some links close together.  This information is to the best of our knowledge at this time and should be verified by travelers. We are also only commenting on requirements for those who are fully vaccinated in the testing information below.

Many of you are aware that at this time, testing requirements are changing as of February 28, 2022 at 12:01 AM EST. A negative molecular (PCR, NAAT, LAMP, within 72 hours) test is not necessarily required, and a negative antigen (rapid test, taken the day prior) result may be ‘easier’ for travelers to obtain and/or perform.

It seems most important to note, Canada wants the test to be administered somewhere supervised with an address (lab, pharmacy, clinic, etc). In other words, it can’t be an unsupervised self-test. However, Canada does accept certain self-tests that are supervised online (aka telehealth), such as the Switch Health antigen or LAMP tests or the Azova LAMP tests.

Switch Health sells Rapid test kits, which you can purchase in advance and are self-administered via a telehealth experience. While we haven’t used this service ourselves, we have read some reviews involving this brand of kit with positive experiences such as this one. We have not confirmed if this meets requirements, please ensure you do so if going this route.

Children under 5 years of age do not need to have a test result.

Travelers will also be required to have either a paper or digital copy of their vaccination documentation. To be considered fully vaccinated, you need to have had both doses, for at least 14 days.

Also as of February 28, 2022; children under 12 years old, travelling with fully vaccinated adults, will continue to be exempt from quarantine. This means, for example, they no longer need to wait 14 days before attending school, camp, or daycare.

You should always keep an eye on the following government page for the latest info on detailed entry requirements:

Checking In

Happy new year! Hope everyone is doing well and staying happy and healthy.

Is anyone selling ladies skis and boots (size 8 equivalent)? Let us know and we will pass along some contact information for a group member who is looking to buy.

Also, now that the local ski season is underway you might be looking at a tune up. We recently went to Cleve’s Source for Sports in Burnside, Nova Scotia and had fantastic service. Wanted to mention it as they sound to be quite busy so a good idea to get in now! (Not sponsored, just like to share!)

Would love to hear what you have been up to; has anyone been skiing or boarding yet? Head to our Facebook page and let us know what the conditions have been like so far!

Sunday River – March 2022

We have dusted off our site and are starting to update our links for 2022 ski season!

Once again, Sunday River is offering Duggan Ski Group members exclusive pricing for March 2022. All of the information can be found here, under Booking at Sunday River.

We also have a flyer you can view below with the basic information and pricing; note the current pricing is valid for trips booked before December 15th. We will update after that date.

We had also mentioned exploring a February 2022 trip. Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control this will not be happening for 2022. Perhaps in a future year 🙂

Obviously, Sunday River has COVID guidelines you are encouraged to check out when considering a trip.

Upcoming Season

We have some tentatively good news to share! With the planned border opening, Sunday River has confirmed they are working on pricing for March Break for Canadians. We are also considering planning a February week trip as well this year. Obviously there are still a lot of unknowns, but we are hoping to have more details and pricing information soon. We certainly have missed Sunday River and know you all feel the same 🙂

Ski Martock 21/22

Happy Fall! While we don’t have any group trip updates to provide at this time, we know a few group members have been asking about Ski Martock and so wanted to pass along their latest newsletter:

Dear Season Pass Holders and Multi-Week Program Participants:
Thank you for purchasing your season pass and/or snow school program for the upcoming 2021- 2022 season.
We are writing to address concerns you may have over the uncertainty of water levels in the Avon River, and its effect on our ability to make snow for the upcoming season.
We have been working with all three levels of government to mitigate this situation. As you can appreciate, working through this process takes time. We have recently received all the permitting to allow us to lower our pumping station on the Avon River. The design is completed, most contractors have been engaged and construction has begun.
We thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you on the snow this winter.
Best Regards,
Heather & Jim Boylan

Enjoying our local hills.

Right around this time of year for the past many years, most of us were at Sunday River or at Jay Peak. As everyone knows, due to Covid that just didn’t happen this year!

Thankfully, we do have our local hills and they are doing a great job of saving our ski season.

We wanted to give a shout out to say what a great season we have had so far at Ski Martock, as we have been there quite a bit this year. I said today that the conditions at Martock could only be improved by having more acreage, thus more area for runs. A magic carpet from the chair lift to The Glades would also be nice for some of us!! 😉

As usual, the staff have worked their magic on the hill and it shows, the conditions are so close to perfection, especially in the morning, you could not ask for any better. The lift lines are very manageable and moving as fast as possible. The staff are super friendly and helpful. There have been a few customers that need to be reminded that MASKS are mandatory, but most have complied with a smile (of course you just couldn’t see it). We are all there to enjoy the sport and staff are going out of their way to make sure that we continue to have the opportunity to do so, therefore please mask up as required.

Just a reminder to not let this season pass you by just because we can’t enjoy our annual trip. We have a list of the hills in Atlantic Canada here, if you are looking for some more information.

Also wanted to share, we decided to stay overnight in Windsor on Tuesday to eliminate the drive and have a bit of a getaway. We stayed at The Clockmaker’s Inn, less than 10 mins to Ski Martock.

We had a wonderful stay in a very comfortable room, breakfast included. The staff there are super and the breakfast was so good. When we checked in we received a discount coupon for The Spitfire Arms Pub , which we had frequented a few times in the last few weeks. So this was a bonus, they have very good lunch time specials , so we had a late lunch after leaving the hill before heading to the Inn.

Let us know what you all have been up to this year! Hopefully next year we will all be together again.

Happy New Year!

Sending along best wishes for the new year to all of our group members! We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season, and hope 2021 brings lots of joy (and also lots of snow for local ski hills)!

While this new year is certainly different from our typical planning; we’d love to stay in touch with you all and pass along any ski related news we have.

Remember to follow us on Facebook where we will also share more frequent information from ski hills in the Maritime provinces.

Stay safe and healthy in 2021! We know most of us are ready to move on from 2020, just like this little member of our group!

2020; I’m over it!

Who’s getting excited?

Many of you are traveling for your trip next week;  let us know if you have any questions or feel free to post a question on the Facebook group for feedback from other group members.

The forecast for Newry is showing a bit of a mix throughout the week; with temperatures potentially warming – pack your layers! Still looks like it will cool down during the nights to keep the conditions great.

The mountain report is updated daily on the Sunday River website and app; we will also plan to post screen shots on social media stories each morning.

Although we don’t have a group discount with them, wanted to mention we had a great experience at the Best Western in Woodstock. Fantastic staff, and close to the US border! As always, we have the group rates available in Bangor as well as Freeport.

We had a fantastic time last week, can’t wait to hear how the rest of our crew does next week. Please tag us on Instagram or use the hashtag #dugganskigroup ; we love to see what you are up to!

Final Price Jump

Happy Monday! Sunday River is starting the week with 12” of new snow in the past week and 30” average base depth. 129 trails are open; the most open terrain in New England!

This is your friendly reminder current prices will go up one more time after this Saturday, February 15th. Conditions are looking incredible so don’t miss out.

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to book any hotels you might need for travel along the way. We have the discounts and booking information for these here.

You also may want to download the mobile app, it is a great way to check out the trail map in advance as well as view current conditions while on site.

We also spotted some familiar faces on the Sundar River website this morning, and had to share. 😉
